Sitters FAQ

Becoming a Tandem Sitter is simple! First, download the Tandem app from the App Store. When you open the app, you will be prompted to sign up. Once we have your basic information, we'll start sending you jobs that fit your schedule.

Jobs that match your unique qualifications and schedule will show up on your “Available Jobs” page of the Tandem app. When you see a job, you have three options: to accept, decline, or view more details. If the job is not what you’re looking for, decline it, but if it works for you, accept it quickly! As soon as another sitter accepts a job, it will disappear from your timeline — jobs work under a “first come, first serve” model.

Once you accept a job, the Tandem App automatically sends the parent an introductory message from you through the in-app messenger. Because you will have the family’s address, as well as the date(s) and time(s) of the job, you do not need to wait for a reply from a parent to know you’re booked. However, parents may still message you to get to know you before the job, give you more details, or to confirm or alter the date(s) and time(s)!

TandemPay is a unique process that allows sitters to get paid immediately after their jobs, entirely through their mobile devices. After completing your first job through Tandem, you will be sent a customized Tandem debit card (sitters will have a virtual card that funds will be loaded on until the physical card arrives). Once the debit card arrives at your address, you can easily activate your card and manage your earnings and spending through the TandemPay portal, accessible from the app!

Tandem makes payments easy — no more hassling a parent for a Venmo payment or worrying about cash or checks. Parents receive a text after you complete a job to confirm the owed amount, and all of the funds will then immediately be sent to your card. Be sure to check your balance in the app or on your TandemPay portal!

Our cancellation policy is as follows: As a sitter, you get 3 cancellations without penalty. While we understand that situations arise, we do not want this to become a habit — parents have to know that their babysitters are reliable. If you exceed 3 cancellations, Tandem will reach out as a warning and reminder of this policy. Your next cancellation will result in removal from the platform. Tandem uses a rating scale, so make sure to keep your attendance perfect to keep your rating high!

Once you accept a job, you will see the job on the “My Jobs” screen, under the “Upcoming Jobs” section. If you need to cancel a job, you can click on the specific job and follow the prompts to cancel. The app will confirm you want to cancel first, as more than three cancellations will result in consequences.

Sitters will fill out a W-9 for our legal records when they set-up their TandemPay portal. Sitters will receive a Form 1099k on money made through Tandem when they reach $20,000 in earnings in a calendar year. We will send you a 1099K form at that point.—Note you may still be required to file tax returns if you don’t receive a 1099k from Tandem. Please consult your tax advisor.

You can request a copy of your own background check, but Tandem cannot share your results. You can choose to request a copy of your background check and share it with families by using this form- https://www.evidentid.com/support/individual/

If you can’t message the family on the app, it means that they need to finish setting up their account, or your background check has not come back yet. Check back soon, and look out for a notification, as we’ll let you know when messaging this family becomes available!

Booking a sitter is simple. Login to your account at www.sitticonnect.com and fill out a sitter request form. Fill out a one time or recurring form based on your needs, and we'll promptly send your request to sitters who fit your preferences.

While we cannot guarantee that same-day sitter requests will be fulfilled, we always do our best to find a babysitting solution as quickly as possible. We understand that last minute childcare needs arise, and we are here to help!

Editing jobs is simple! You can edit the dates and times of jobs from your parent portal (www.sitticonnect.com). If the dates of a recurring job change, please cancel and submit a new request.

If your sitter cancels a booked job, your booking request will automatically reopen for us to fill. We will try our hardest to replace your original sitter before the time of the job!

Paying your sitter is fast and easy. After you've signed up for Tandem, you can connect a bank account or credit card. We will send you a notification to pay your sitter after each scheduled job ends. You can edit the times of the job or the total pay. You also have the option to add a tip or a reimbursement if a sitter spent their money on something related to the job.

No. We do not support mobile payment applications, cash, or check payments to sitters.

You will be prompted to correct the amount if it’s incorrect. We will then send the new approved amount to the sitter! If you fail to approve a payment within 24 hours of the job’s completion, you will be automatically charged the full, original amount of the job.

Tandem allows parents to set their own rates based on the details of their job and the unique characteristics of their family. We believe sitter rates should not solely be based on the number of children the sitter is watching, but rather the distinct situation of the parents and their children. When you submit a booking request form, you choose the amount you want to pay.

Tandem uses Evident to background check our sitters. Sitters are checked through a national criminal search, their current county of residence, sex offender registry, and domestic and global terrorist watchlists. All sitters are scanned for any offenses within the last 7 years. The check will identify an offense in any jurisdiction a sitter has a record in.

Sitters can request a copy of their own background check, but Tandem cannot share sitters results. If a sitter is a certified babysitter on our platform, that means that their background check came back completely clean, with no identified offenses. Sitters can choose to request a copy of their background check and share it with families by using this form- https://www.evidentid.com/support/individual/

We encourage our families to form connections with sitters, and we hope you want to use them next time! You can select the name of a past sitter when you fill out a request form. The request will be sent to these sitters first.

The Tandem payment flow is as follows; parent, Tandem, sitter. Technically, you’re paying Tandem and we’re paying the specific sitter, which takes all tax obligations off of you! It is Tandem’s job to provide sitters and the Internal Revenue Service with a Form 1099K if they make over $20,000 in a calendar year through Tandem. Sitters will file and pay taxes on their own, leaving the parents out of the equation.
